Promoting Professional Learning Project
NEAT
has received funding from Teaching Australia through the Australian
Joint Council for Professional Teaching Associations (AJCPTA) for
the Promoting Professional Learning Project. The objective of this
project has been to build the capacity of professional teaching bodies
in each state and territory to promote professional learning.
The
AJCPTA is working closely with professional associations of teachers
to assist communication between Teaching Australia and the profession,
to support professional learning activities, to promote and encourage
professional learning about Indigenous education, to assist the integration
of ICT in teaching and learning and to promote the national awards
for quality schooling. State and territory initiatives commenced
in July 2005.
The development of the new NEAT website is one
of the activities undertaken as part of this project.
Values Education
The former Minister
for Education, Science and Training, the Hon. Dr Brendan Nelson,
announced Australian Government funding in the 2004 budget to support
values education in Australian schools through a number of initiatives
over four years (2004–2008).
These include:
Underpinning the Values Education programme is The
National Framework for Values Education in
Australian Schools which was developed from the Values
Education Study (2003) and national consultation of a draft
framework. The national framework was agreed to and endorsed
by all the State and Territory Ministers of Education and distributed
to all Australian schools in February 2005.
NEAT has been working
strategically with the Department of Education and the Australian
Government Quality Teacher Programme (AGQTP) to ensure broad
and cohesive dissemination of information and resources.
